Njia is a university placement and funding platform for KCSE students. It helps students move from their exam results to a university place, guides them through pre-registration and keeps them in touch with the Njia team, all from one secure online platform.
Serina Systems designed and built both sides of the platform: a student portal that walks each student through the journey, and a staff management system that lets the Njia team review applicants, track matches and respond to students. Everything runs on a Node.js and Express back end with a PostgreSQL database.
Because students and staff each have what they need in one place, there is less back-and-forth, fewer missed steps and a clearer path from results to placement.
The Brief
Njia needed a dependable way to guide KCSE students toward university placement and funding, and a way for its own team to manage every applicant without juggling separate tools.
Give students one clear place to explore placement and funding, and make sure only committed applicants enter the process.
At the same time, give staff a single system to review applicants, track matches and communicate, while keeping personal data safe.
We built a student portal and a staff management system on one shared database, connected by a payment-gated pre-registration flow that uses M-Pesa STK push.
An internal messaging system keeps admins, staff and students in touch, and rate limiting protects the platform from abuse.

Every Serina project follows a clear roadmap. For Njia, each stage was shaped around two groups of users: the KCSE students who apply, and the staff who support them.
